this story has not yet been the focus of a lot of national attention, but it's about to be. finally. good wednesday morning, everybody. right now on first, major recall. general motors is facing an expansive recall for a faulty ignition switch found in well over a million cars. and it's also being linked to 13 deaths. tarking her time. arizona governor jan brewer isn't rushing to veto an anti-gay bill. lucky dog, a california couple walking their dog finds gold rush coins worth over $10 million. plus the number of people with health care goes up, while the number of overweight kids goes down. and the first reports of taxes raised pr the sale of legal marijuana are in. we have the numbers.

thanks for joining us. so a major auto recall is expanding after the deaths have doubled. it involves i guess anything switches in 1.6 million general motors vehicles. and it is now link ed to 31 crashes and at least 13 deaths. that faulty switch can inadvertently turn off, which shuts down the engine and most electrical components including air bag systems needed in crashes. look at the models impacted. 2003-2007 saturn ion. 2006-2007 chevrolet hhr. they join the already recalled 2005-2007 chevrolet cobalt and sedans. . and the 2005-2007 pontiac pursuit sold in canada only. in a statement, gm's president said "ensuring our customers'

safety is our first order of business. we're deeply sorry and we are working to address the issue as quickly as we can." gm will notify all customers at no charge. in the meantime, drivers should only use the ignition key with nothing else on the key ring. the call to tee vooe toe a controversial bill is reaching a ground swell. it would allow businesses to deny services to gays and lesbians based on religious believes. three people tell nbc news she's likely to veto it. the governor said she has until friday to make a decision. but the governor has not said how she will act. late last night she tweeted "i assure you, as always, i will do the right thing for the state of arizona." but the course of opposition is growing. mitt romney is the latest to weigh in tweeting directly to

the governor that a veto is right. romney joins john mccain and jeff flake in opposition. also this, yelp, delta airlines and intel are joining a hefty list of companies encouraging a veto, but those in support say the bill would protect the right of private businesses to service who they please. sign a security agreement or all u.s. troops are heading home at the end of this year. as jim miklaszewski reports, they are preparing for a possible pullout. >> reporter: martin dempsey was about to land in afghanistan when he got the word. start preparing to pul all u.s. troops out of afghanistan at the end of the year. >> we have o to plan for other options. >> reporter: in a phone call

president obama urged the afghan president to sign a bilateral security agreement that would protect any american troops who remain in afghanistan once the war is officially over the at the start of next year. karzai once more refused. the white house press secretary said the president immediately ordered plans for a total u.s. withdrawal. >> this is about essentially planning for a post 2014 mission and there are a lot of complexities involved in asking the defense department to plan for a zero option that is a full withdral. >> reporter: karzai may leave him no choice. >> i can't ask men and women to serve in a country without the protections afforded by bilateral security agreement. >> reporter: karzai used the security agreement to try to pry concessions out of the u.s. there's a chance, but no guarantees, that presidential elections could elect a new

afghan president who may sign the agreement. the white house was planning to leave as many as 10,000 u.s. troops in afghanistan to train and assist afghan forces. instead plans now begin to withdraw all 34,000 american forces from afghanistan. but the biggest challenge will be removing the millions of tons of u.s. military gear all in a tight ten-month time frame. general dempsey warns al qaeda is still alive and active here and worries about leaving that job undone. >> so we need to have an able to have a dread credible, stable, reliable partner in afghanistan against al qaeda for the foreseeable future. >> u.s. and nato officials are meeting today to discuss a way forward in the war torn country. president obama says 4 million people have already signed up for health care, but he wants a whole lot more to do so. the president urged supporters at the organizing for action

the administration is saying 7 million might have been a little too aggressive. if we get to 6 million, we'll feel pretty strong about that. >> an arizona law that would allow businesses to refuse service to the gay community based on religious believes is spreading. delta airlines says it's deeply concerned about these proposed measures and if passed into law these proposals would cause significant harm to many people and will result to job loss. that is their u quote. is that a essentially a warning shot to not only arizona, but to georgia, where delta has its headquarters. >> absolutely. businesses are coming out aggressive on this saying this is not something they want to have. even potentially impact whether the super bowl would be in arizona. you're starting to see really a lot of the senators, senator mccain and senator flake, come out aggressively and saying they want the governor to veto it as soon as possible.
